What started as an ironic inside joke alter-ego while Brandy Schwechler, a.k.a. Almondmilkhunni, was working as a barista in her hometown of Philadelphia, PA has quickly become an internet fascination, with very good reason!
This gifted artist has already created huge waves with the breakout viral hit “Grapefruit” in 2019 & is now set to create another impact on the music scene with the release of her self-titled debut EP.
Now, Fierce & Fabulous Revolution has had the chance to talk with Almondmilkhunni about her brand new release, along with getting to know more about artist behind the music.
Hey Almondmilkhunni, thanks for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?
Hi! I just turned 23, I’m an Aries, and I’ve been doing music for over a year now. And my debut EP came out this week!
When did you first discover your passion for music?
When I was little I would ride my bike around and just come up with songs in my head. Then as I got older, I would write poetry all the time, which later on turned into writing songs.
Has music always been the main focus in your life or were there other careers you considered pursuing?
I’ve always had other careers and goals unrelated to music in mind simply because I never really thought I would have the courage to submerge myself in making music until I finally did.
How would you describe your musical style to anyone who is not familiar with your work?
My songs tend to be poppy with a lot of R&B influences, whether it’s in the beats or in the lyrical melodies.
You have just released your debut EP, which sounds amazing by the way. How does it feel having your EP out into the world?
Thank you! I was super nervous and self-doubting up until it got closer to the release, and now I’m just very excited and proud of my project and I want everyone to listen to it and enjoy it.
What are some of the mains influences behind the tracks featured on this EP?
Truthfully there’s a lot of my last relationship being invoked for inspiration on the EP. I think overall, the energy is just me finding myself again and regaining my confidence and love.
What are some of your favourite songs to feature on the EP?
My favorites are “Give It All To Me” and the “Grapefruit” remix with Dounia.
If listeners could take one message from this EP, what would you like it to be?
I just really want people to feel my energy in my music, and I want people to get nothing but confidence and self love from my songs. And with the EP, I want to show people that I’m really doing this and I’m improving with every release.
When you are not performing, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love reading and journaling, and I’m very spiritual so I love to meditate and mostly just enjoy living. I love spending time with my friends and being carefree.
What was the last TV series you binged-watched & did you enjoy it?
I binge watched ‘Good Girls’ and it was really good and actually kept my attention, which I feel like most shows can’t. I also saw my friend Travis Mills pop up in the show which was pretty funny.
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
I would say I’m a very quick learner, I’m perceptive, and I’m grateful.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be & why?
I think the ability to connect with anyone and understand them fully is a super power in itself and it’s one that I actively try to improve within myself.
Which songs do you always keep on your playlist?
“Anything” by Toro y Moi, “Broken Clocks” by SZA, and “One in Million” by Aaliyah.
What advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career in music?
Just be yourself and figure out what your purpose is in making music. Once you figure that out, always remind yourself of it because doubts will arise and limited self beliefs will pop up, but if you stay focused on why you’re making music you will be successful.
Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Thank you for reading this interview and I just hope that everyone can enjoy my EP and feel free to follow me at @almondmilkhunni on Instagram and Twitter because I love interacting with followers everyday!
