Upcoming pop singer-songwriter Paris WYA shares the brand new single “Treat Me Right” ahead of the forthcoming EP “MANNEQUIN”.
This latest single is a love letter to the ghost of what could have been, it centres around looking back and missing the version of someone you wished them to be. It features a beautiful underscore that highlights Paris WYA’s tentative and expressive vocals.
Paris WYA has kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the brand new single and the upcoming EP. You can find the full interview below.
Hey Paris WYA, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourself to anyone who might be unfamiliar with your music?
Paris WYA: Hi! I’m Paris WYA, and I’m so excited to be here. I’m a pop artist pursuing a degree at Cornell while building my music career.
I’ve recently entered a new sonic world with my artist project — dreamy, cinematic, and nostalgic. Growing up across Asia, Europe, and the U.S. has really shaped how I understand emotion and storytelling, so I try to bring that global, romantic perspective into everything I create.
At the heart of it, I want my music to feel timeless, equal parts vulnerable and empowering, like the soundtrack to the version of you you’re becoming.
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Paris WYA: Music has always been there. I joined my first choir and picked up the piano when I was 5 years old. But when I started playing the drums around seven or eight, something clicked. For the first time, music felt physical and instinctive, not just technical. That’s when I fell in love with performing, with rhythm, with that electric feeling when everything aligns. Whether it’s drums, singing, or being on stage, that feeling is what I chase.
You just released the new single “Treat Me Right.” How did the idea for the song come together?
Paris WYA: “Treat Me Right” was actually the first song Adrian and I recorded for the EP, so it holds a really special place in my heart. I was going through a really tough breakup at the time, and I was trying to figure out how to give myself the closure I needed. Ironically, writing a song about not being able to let go ended up being the thing that helped me move forward. The song is really about missing the version of someone you always believed they could be, and realizing the relationship fell apart because neither of us was the version of ourselves the other needed. It comes from that raw, grieving place… the one who was still trying to understand how everything slipped away.
The song reflects on the heartbreak of someone who didn’t love you the way they should. What inspired you to put this into a song?
Paris WYA: When I’m making music, I always want it to reflect whatever feels the most real and relevant in my life at that moment. And at the time, heartbreak was this all-consuming thing — it took up every corner of my mind.
Putting it into a song wasn’t even a choice; it was the only way I knew how to process what I was feeling. “Treat Me Right” gave me permission to sit in all those complicated emotions — the sadness, the anger, the guilt — without having to resolve them immediately. I’m genuinely so grateful I had music during that time, because it turned something painful into something beautiful.
What advice would you offer to someone who was currently experiencing this heartbreak?
Paris WYA: Time really does heal. It sounds like the most boring advice, but it’s the truest thing I’ve learned. When you’re in it, it feels impossible to ever move on or let go — like you’re stuck in this loop forever. But you’re not.
With time, you start to realize that your first loves and first heartbreaks teach you so much about who you are, what you need, and what you won’t settle for again. There’s nothing wrong with romanticizing love or even romanticizing a breakup. Let yourself feel it fully. Eventually, the heartbreak becomes just a chapter, not the whole story.
Did you always plan to release this as a single?
Paris WYA: Honestly, yes. From the second I heard the very first demo, I knew this one was different. It had this timeless, bittersweet quality that hit me right in the chest, like it already existed and I just had to bring it into the world.
And after rebranding my entire artist project, “Treat Me Right” felt like the clearest expression of who I am right now. It has that mix of vulnerability, nostalgia, and quiet strength that defines this era for me. So releasing it as a single wasn’t even a question, it felt like the right way to reintroduce myself.
The song is the second release from your upcoming EP MANNEQUIN. What can listeners anticipate from this forthcoming EP?
Paris WYA: I’m so excited for people to hear what’s coming because this EP gets a little angstier as it unfolds. The first two songs set the emotional foundation — they’re the context, the headspace I was in. But as the EP progresses, you can hear me grow and heal in real time. We’re about to go from dreamy to waking up.
Expect the next track to be more upbeat, reclaiming power and control, like I’m taking my life back. At its core, MANNEQUIN is about feeling lifeless and emotionally hollow, like you’re just existing and going through the motions. The EP is the journey of waking up from that and coming back to life.
What does this EP mean to you?
Paris WYA: This EP means the world to me. It feels like the purest snapshot of who I am as an artist right now: raw, early, honest, and completely unfiltered. It captures a version of me learning, breaking, healing, and rebuilding in real time.
I’m endlessly grateful for the team who helped me bring this vision to life, but I’m also learning to give myself credit. I’m usually so hard on myself, but with this project, I can genuinely say I’m proud. It feels like my soul pressed into music.
More than anything, I hope people hear themselves in it. I hope it brings comfort or clarity or even a little healing, the same way creating it did for me. This EP was a grounding, empowering journey, and I can’t wait for people to step into this world with me.
What advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?
Paris WYA: It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Give yourself grace when you mess up — you’re not supposed to be going a thousand miles an hour all the time. Growth isn’t linear, and this industry can feel really lonely. But if the worst day making music still feels better than the best day doing anything else, that’s how you know you’re on the right path.
Above everything, stay true to yourself. I can’t stress that enough. Early on, I made the mistake of creating for other people’s expectations of me, what felt “necessary” or more “marketable.” There’s absolutely a way to be both authentic and commercial, but if you lose the authentic part, people feel it instantly. Your audience hears when something isn’t really you.
So trust your voice. Trust your taste. That’s what will carry you.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Paris WYA: Thank you for giving my music a home here. I hope this era reminds people that it’s okay to break, rebuild, and rediscover yourself. If any part of these songs brings comfort or clarity to someone, then the project has done its job. I can’t wait for you to experience the world of MANNEQUIN with me.
