INTERVIEW: Mia Langridge Discusses The Latest Single “Let Me Be”!

Upcoming Brighton-based indie-pop singer-songwriter Mia Langridge shares the powerful new single, “Let Me Be”.

This latest release centres around breaking free from someone who wouldn’t let go, the lyrics and instrumentation expressing the need to move on and asking the other person to do the same.

This latest single was written by Mia Langridge and produced by Martin Rossiter of Gene, who helped Mia match the sound to the desperation of her lyrics.

Mia has kindly spoken with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the release of “Let Me Be” and the journey behind it. You can check out the full interview below.

Hey Mia, thank you for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourself to readers who might be unfamiliar with your music?

I’m Mia Langridge and I’m a 20 year old Singer-Songwriter from Brighton England. I’m a 3rd year student at Uni studying songwriting. I’ve been writing songs and making music seriously since I was 16.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

I’ve always had a love for music as I grew up with parents who had fabulous music taste! But I always loved to sing and even when I was tiny I would make up a little songs and perform to family at every opportunity which annoyed the hell out of them!

Have you always wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?

For me being a musician was always my dream, it was like as soon as I was about four, I knew that that was what I wanted to do. For a while I didn’t think I would be able to achieve it, so I worked at it. I got singing lessons, I learnt piano and guitar and I just kept writing songs and practicing as being a musician has always been the thing I wanted to do. At 16 I was lucky enough to get a place to study song writing at BIMM Brighton and it just built from there.

How would you currently describe your musical style?

I’d say my music falls into the Pop/Indie genre. I have always loved creating catchy melodies that carry the song and I feel that my music very much revolves around that alongside my lyrics.

You recently released your new single “Let Me Be”. How did the idea for this song come together?

My song ‘Let Me Be’ is inspired by the idea of someone who won’t let you move on. Of how they refuse to let you close a chapter that is well and truly over. It’s about that frustration of having someone still trying to hang on to the past well after you’ve chosen to let them go.

The song centres around breaking free from someone who would not let you move on. What inspired you to put this into a song?

I was inspired to write this song as I was holding so much pent up frustration and resentment and I just wanted to let it all out into a song. I wanted this song to express more of my darker, edgy song and make a song with a bit more bite to it.

What does this song mean to you?

This song means a lot to me. It is my second ever release and was one of the first songs that people began to resonate with at my gigs. I wrote it a couple of years ago and when I perform or listen to it, it takes me back to the head space I was in when I wrote it. I really love the siren like vocals and the different levels of rage expressed within it, everything from a bit pissed off to fucking furious! I deliberately wanted to create an eery soundscape towards the climax of the song and it’s one of the reasons I love this song so much.

What message would you like listeners to take from this song?

I think this song is really relatable to lots of people. I think most of us have experienced some kind of difficult or toxic ending to a friendship or relationship and how frustrating it can be. I want listeners to resonate with the lyrics and energy of “Let Me Be” and be able to tell someone to just LET THEM BE!

Do you have any further upcoming releases planned that you can currently tell us about?
