INTERVIEW: Oswald Slain Discuss Their Debut Album “BUCKY”!

Upcoming Bristol rock group Oswald Slain have shared their highly anticipated debut album “BUCKY”!

Formerly known as Little Thief, Oswald Slain’s shares their debut album was recorded and produced in-house by Ryan Rogers (Mumble Tide) and the band themselves in their DIY self-built home studio, mixed by John Logan and mastered by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering (PJ Harvey, XTC, Big Special).  For Fitzgerald and Williams, partners in life as well as music, their debut record is more than a curated collection of songs, it’s a love-letter to their trials and errors, their self and musical exploration and perfectly highlights the band’s striking evolution from their previous moniker.

Throughout the album’s eight tracks Oswald Slain combine sleazy rhythms, driving drums, nostalgic guitar lines and the evocative lyricism they’re fast becoming known for, to celebrate their personal flaws, flamboyant failures and ultimately sees them finding self-acceptance.

Vocalist Charlie Fitzgerald has kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding their debut album and the journey behind it. You can find the full interview below.

Hey Oswald Slain, thank you for this interview. On October 24th, you released your debut album “BUCKY”, which sounds amazing. How did the idea for the album come together?

It was a process really… it started with us going away over the new year and starting the month of January without biblical hangovers. We had a couple of song ideas which then turned into a short record. We recorded loads of new music, worked really hard, and felt like we needed to do something with it. It didn’t really fit with our old way of working so we built a whole new project around the songs and gave it a sound we felt worked. It all fell into place quite quickly and took a little over two weeks to make.

What are some of the things that helped inspire the creative process of the album?

Dairy lee Lunchables, finding joy after fending off mild self loathing with my bug o salt, a reasonable amount of sobriety,  moments of clarity within the greasy veneer of a mundane life.

What are some of your favourite songs from the album?

I like Terrible Neighbour. We never released it as a single because we didn’t record a version of it without all the swearing but I think it’s got the best chorus. Until Next Time is also just the saddest goodbye which I’m really into.

What does it mean to you to see your debut album be released into the world?

Honestly it’s great. It’s been a long process so it’s really nice to pass it over and move on.

What would you say to the version of yourself starting out in music about journeying to the release of your debut album?

Buckle up baby boy.

If listeners could take something away from listening to the album, what would you like it to be?

To feel happy and free in their own skin

Are there any songs that did not make the final tracklist, which we could see released at a later date?

There were a couple of extra tracks that could have been on there but we wanted to keep it short and to the point. We’ve got a ton of new songs written and 2 weeks booked in January to start making the next one. So plenty more to come 🙂

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Just a massive thanks for reading this. Get yourself a record. Support independent artists and be kind to yourself x
