Independent Copenhagen pop powerhouse Mags returns with Herified – a life-affirming, pride-infused album about coming to love oneself, coming out, coming forward, and coming together.
Across eight tracks, this album guides listeners on an emotional journey through her diary-like, honest lyrics woven into a rich soundscape of quirky electronic pop and anthemic ballads. The album explores the full spectrum of emotions that come with being both mesmerized and terrified by love.
“To me, ’Herified’ is the sound of fascination – the titel comes from me own making of taking the “noun” her and making it into a verb by adding “fied”; Herified. it’s my way of capturing the shift from knowing to doing. It’s about feeling herified,” mags explains. “As an artist and a queer woman who has gone from searching for my reflection to truly seeing myself, it’s also deeply important for me to represent queer, female-led narratives in a world – and an industry – where there is still not nearly enough of it.”
Inspired by mags’ embrace of another woman – and of herself – writing and recording the album’s vibrant pop songs became a celebration of transforming emotion into action.
Speaking about the album, Mags shares. “Growing up, I heard love songs on the radio, but they were always boy-meets-girl stories. Stories of women loving women were rarely represented. I didn’t have idols who reflected the magic I was feeling – someone to make me stand up and go for it.”
“Centering my sexuality on ‘Herified’ isn’t about pointing fingers or asking for sympathy. First and foremost, this is an album about big love—when it’s euphoric, bubbling, sexy, heavy, sad, messy, or just absolutely perfect. And that kind of love? Everyone knows it. Because love has no gender.”
