INTERVIEW: Leonie Persch Discusses The Release Of “Code Blue”!

Upcoming German-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Leonie Persch continues to make waves in the music industry with her second single “Code Blue.” The bittersweet ballad showcases the fragile, gut-wrenching moment when something precious fails to breathe and metaphorically enters a code blue, in the belief that it could be revived.

Originally written as a song about a love that’s burnt out, Leonie Persch gradually discovered over time that it is much more; it’s about the things you’re forced to leave behind when you outgrow something you’re still fighting for, but know deep down it’s not worth it.

Leonie has kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the journey behind “Code Blue” and you can read the full interview below.

Hey Leonie, thank you for taking the time to talk today. Tell me a little about yourself?

Leonie: I’m a German songwriter, artist, and creative founder who just moved across the world to Los Angeles this year. I’ve been working as a songwriter in Berlin for the past six years and was ready for a change – I decided to become a fully independent artist and write, and doing so while living in California has been a dream of mine for a long time.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Leonie: When I was about 5 years old, I first started writing poems. I shared a love for philosophy and creative writing with my grandmother, who always encouraged me to follow this creative path. When my parents hosted dinners at our home, I often sang for our friends as a little child and fell more in love with music and singing every day.

How would you currently describe your musical style?

Leonie: I wrote a lot of songs in the electronic dance music genre over the past 6 years, but my main passion has always been pop music. I still incorporate electronic elements into my music, but I try to balance them with organic sounds. I like blending both so the result doesn’t feel overly polished and still carries a sense of honesty and purity.

On August 1st, you released the new single “Code Blue”. What inspired the creation of this latest release?

Leonie: This song is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever put out. I love everything about it, the rhythm, the lyrics, the melodies, and its bittersweet message. It’s about holding onto people, things, goals, visions, or environments that are still very dear to your heart but don’t belong in your life anymore. We grow out of certain situations or relationships by evolving into a new version of ourselves. And while many goodbyes cause pain in the heart and struggle in our minds, change and letting go are necessary to become who we are really supposed to be. I have lived many versions of myself already, especially in music – starting as a vocalist before mainly working as a songwriter for the past 6 years, to becoming the most authentic version of myself yet by being a fully independent artist. Leaving my home country, moving across the world, and starting this artist project from scratch. And while such intense change can be quite scary, I always try to embrace it. This is exactly what “Code Blue” is about.

What does the song personally mean to you & how does it make you feel when performing it?

Leonie: I did not perform it yet – but will very soon and can’t wait for it! It means a lot since it is the second release on my first fully independent solo artist project – every song is a step toward my goal of growing as an artist and sharing my story.

Did you always plan to release “Code Blue” as a single?

Leonie: Yes, in the early stages of building a new project, I want to give each song the deserved attention, which is why I choose to release singles only for the upcoming months.

What message would you like listeners to take from this song?

Leonie: Work on your mental skills to deal with goodbyes – you can’t impede them in life. Change is necessary and uncomfortable doesn’t always mean it’s a bad thing – most of the time, it’s the other way around.

What piece of advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Leonie: Study the business side of the industry! Know your contracts and your rights, don’t give your master ownership away easily, and be cautious about who you trust.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Leonie: I think one of the most important things for independent artists and writers is community, which is why I started my own networking series platform, ‘Indie Table LA’, for creatives in the music industry! I am building this community to support critical thinking, connection, collaboration, and growth!
