Zimbabwe-born, London-based indie pop singer-songwriter Ananya takes listeners on an upbeat exploration of poorly timed relationships with the brand new single “Falling.” Ananya’s sarcastic phrasing and hopeful melody bring a light-hearted atmosphere to the story of a ‘wrong time, wrong place’ type of relationship.
This latest release captures the mental battle between your heart and head in a relationship you know may be bad for you. The song was written by Ananya and produced by Patch Boshell, who added a danceable tone to the track.
Ananya has kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the brand new single and you can find the full interview below.
Hey Ananya, thank you for taking the time to chat today. Tell me a little about yourself?
Ananya: Hi! Thank you so much for having me 🙂 I’m Ananya, a Zimbabwean born now London based singer. I’m also really passionate about mental health advocacy! Music has always been my way of processing the world and creating space for stories I feel don’t always get heard.
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Ananya: I was 6 when I first watched “Teardrops on my Guitar” by Taylor Swift, and that was it for me! I grew up in a house where creativity was always encouraged, so I was always writing or making something. It wasn’t until I moved away from home that I realized how much I needed music as a musica outlet.
How would you currently describe your musical style?
Ananya: I’d say it’s introspective indie pop.. or bedroom pop at its core. I love weaving vulnerability into melodies you can still move to.
On July 25th, you released the new single Falling; What inspired the lyrical journey behind the song?
Ananya: “Falling” came from a place of emotional confusion. I was trying really hard to act like I wasn’t catching feelings. It’s about that mental tug-of-war when your head knows something isn’t good for you, but your heart just keeps going anyway.
Did you always plan to release this song as a single?
Ananya: At first, I wasn’t sure. I wrote it more as a personal reflection, but when I played it live during a Glamour South Africa livestream, the response was overwhelming. People kept messaging me asking when it was coming out, so it became clear that it resonated with others too. That made the decision easy.
Which lyric in the song would you consider to have the most emotional impact?
Ananya: “I know I try, but what’s the use?” Sums up the exhaustion of trying to protect yourself emotionally while your heart is doing something completely different. It’s a quiet moment of surrender.
What does the song personally mean to you?
Ananya: It’s a reminder that it’s okay to feel deeply, even when the timing’s all wrong. “Falling” almost gave me permission to admit how much I cared. It’s vulnerable but also freeing.
What are some of the things you would like listeners to take from it?
Ananya: We all have moments where our feelings don’t “make sense” or come at the worst possible time. If “Falling” helps someone feel understood in that chaos, then it’s done its job. ❤
Do you have any further releases or upcoming performances planned that you’re able to talk about?
Ananya: Yes! I’m working on new music right now that I’m super excited about, it continues exploring the themes of home, identity, and emotional honesty.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Ananya: Don’t be afraid to feel things deeply or speak your truth, even when it’s scary. There’s so much strength in vulnerability. And thank you so much for listening to my music and supporting my journey!
