Formed by vocalist Alison Freed and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Alexandria Reyes, LA-based rock duo Royal She share their brand new album “Befores And Afters”!
Their genre-bending sound blends elements of rock, pop, hip hop, rap, and electronic music, creating a sonic signature. Produced by Logan Mader (Five Finger Death Punch, Machine Head) and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge, David Bendeth, Jay Baumgardner, and Math Bishop, this latest album hits hard as a statement of survival, transformation, and rebirth.
This latest album is a full-throttle reckoning — a sonic evolution that refuses to flinch. For fans of fearless emotion, genre-fluid production, and empowered storytelling, Royal She delivers an album as bold as it is brutally honest.
Royal She have kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the release of their brand new album. You can find the full interview below.
You just released the brand new album “Befores And Afters”. How did the idea for this album come together?
Alison: We started writing music together again after a big musical break, and we were really inspired, and the songs were really flowing out of us. We played our first show in June of 2023 and from that moment, we knew we were going to write this album.
Alex: I felt stuck—on autopilot, unsure of who I was or what I wanted and just kind of dragging myself through life. Then we got into the studio and started writing, and these songs poured out of us—through our pores, through our tears. It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments where everything just flowed—raw, magical, and effortless.
This album is full of empowering and liberating songs that carry you through a rollercoaster emotional journey. What inspired you to include these themes on your album?
Alex: A lot of the themes are pretty clear—it’s inspired by heartbreak in many forms. But as the songs unfold, you start to hear the evolution: reclaiming independence, rising from the ashes. We thread that journey from start to finish, and close it on a hopeful note—learning to love and trust again. Most importantly, learn to love and trust yourself!
Alison: This was exactly what we were living as we lived it. It will forever be the musical diary of one of the hardest times of my life. But writing, recording, and now performing this album is so powerful and healing.
Are there any songs that did not make the final track list that we could see released in the future?
Alex: Yes! We are continually writing, experimenting, and recording music, and already have three songs post album, including a cover!
Alison: Yeah, there are a bunch actually. And like Alex mentioned, we have some really cool songs just about ready for release after the album drops. We’re still riding that creative wave. If anything, it feels like the wave has gotten bigger.
What are some of your favourite songs on the album?
Alex: That’s a tough one! But if I had to pick, I’d go with My Ex and Feel Again—probably because I love playing them on guitar. You get a dose of riot and rage, and then that upbeat, feel-good energy to balance it out.
Alison: Ironically, one of the hardest songs that I have ever written, sang, or performed is my favorite. “Let Her Go.” I keep trying to fight against singing it for our album release show because I’m scared, I won’t get through it without crying, but I’m really proud of that song.
What does this album mean to you?
Alex: This album means so much to me. Even though Alison is the primary lyricist and the songs reflect her personal experiences, writing it was deeply therapeutic for me too. I had almost given up on music, and pouring my heart into this record was a way back. In a lot of ways, this album saved me.
Alison: It definitely saved me, too. I was being consumed by my pain. This was my way to work through that pain and let it go.
If listeners could take something away from this album, what would you like it to be?
Alex: I want listeners to feel empowered! Sure, there are some sad songs and a few angry ones, but through it all—chanting along, feeling the full expression of the album—I hope they come away with a sense of strength and independence.
Alison: I agree. If a listener felt seen, understood, and not alone- and if this album was healing to them- that would be my greatest wish. It’s all about feeling the tough emotions, getting through them, and finding healing and love again.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Alex: The time is now to rise up in your power!
Alison: Don’t give up. If I can heal, so can you. The world is better with you in it and you are important.
