INTERVIEW: Sarina Discusses The Release Of The Hopeful Ballad “Race with no end”!

Upcoming pop-rock singer-songwriter Sarina recently shared the new single “Race with no end”, which centres around how to be true to yourself when the world seems against you.

Produced by Kevin Thrasher, this latest single emphasizes remaining authentic to yourself in a world full of comparisons and persevering through the trials and tribulations that life and people throw your way.

This upbeat pop ballad embodies a piano-pop melody infused with deep lyricism and catchy instrumentals, creating a comforting landscape.

Sarina has kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the release of “Race with no end” and you can find the full interview below.

Hey Sarina, thank you for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourself to listeners who might be unfamiliar with your music?

Sarina: Hello everyone! I’m Sarina, a singer/songwriter based in Tokyo but writing English music :3 I do a variety, but generally it all falls under the alt/rock umbrella!

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Sarina: I kind of grew up with it, in all honesty. Both my parents are artists and being in such a creative household, I was raised with this deep appreciation for artistry and storytelling particularly through music. At first, I wanted to do Broadway and was obsessed with the Sound of Music and Mary Poppins (Basically anything Julie Andrews) but I started writing my own stuff at around 12 and just kept going with it. Writing and performing my own pieces just felt like a truer, more vulnerable form of art and that resonated with me.

Have you always known that you wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?

Sarina: When I was in kindergarten, I wanted to be a neurosurgeon! Luckily, I thought better of it, especially when I learned how many years of schooling was involved. So, I pivoted to psychology with a focus on Personality Disorders specifically because I found them fascinating! Then I realised how much statistics and math was involved and thought better of it. All jokes aside I always knew I wanted to be on stage, from musicals to concerts it just felt like the most “me” I could ever feel.

How would you currently describe your musical style?

Sarina: I think it could be described as alternative if we’re talking umbrella terms. The common strain in all of it is that it comes from a very real and very raw place. To me, music is a form of true expression, and I don’t like doing songs that don’t feel almost uncomfortable in their gruesome nakedness. My older stuff was heavily pop/punk coded, a La Avril Lavigne and Paramore, but my debut work was much more orchestral rock. With my upcoming EP, I think it’s clearly gained a more mature sound and could be compared more to Evanescence, Sleep Token, and surprisingly Imogen Heap. As fun as it was doing lighter toned songs last year, I’m so excited to get to share this deeper part of me with my new music.

You just released the new single “Race with no end.” How did the idea for this song come together?

Sarina: “Race with no end” was written while I was in LA recording music for the first time. I recall feeling really overwhelmed and like I was nothing but a Failure. The entertainment industry is taxing at the best of times and cutthroat at its core. For me, I was really feeling that constant grind, that constant reaching for something more and it was starting to make me really doubt myself.

This song features an inspiring message of pushing through even in the darkest times. What inspired you to put this message in a song?

Sarina: I remember sitting in the studio with Kevin and Matt, who co-wrote this piece with me, and talking about some of the thoughts and feelings I’d been having. They were both super supportive and really uplifting, in that moment it felt like two older brothers giving me a pep-talk hahaha. From that, this really beautiful and heart wrenching song about perseverance and pushing through when times get hard came out and in a way, it feels almost harder to sing emotionally for me than the sad stuff because choosing to have hope can almost hurt more than letting yourself feel hopeless.

What does this song personally mean to you?

Sarina: I think for me it’s a reminder to keep going. Especially when I still sometimes struggle with the depression brain spewing mean things at me, it’s nice to have a song in my own voice filled with this intense, soulful, intentional hope.

If listeners could take something from this song, what would you like it to be?

Sarina: I hope they feel inspired, I hope they listen to the song and feel the music giving them a big ol hug and picking them up off the ground. That’s what it did for me, and I hope they can feel the love that was poured into ‘Race with no end.’

What advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Sarina: Never lose sight of the passion. This industry can seem really corporate at times but at its core it’s kept alive by artists and by fans, but more importantly by fellow humans. We all live, we all breathe, we all feel, and as long as none of us forget that the music will always hit where it needs to if you’re writing it from that sacred human place inside yourself.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Sarina: I hope you all will keep reaching for your light, and more than that I hope we can all hold our hands out to each other when times get hard, because times will always get hard. What matters is how we light up the darkness afterward.
