INTERVIEW: Rosie Gault Discusses The Forthcoming Single “I’m Losing You”!

Following the recent success of singles such as “Medusa” and “Dim Lights”, upcoming singer-songwriter Rosie Gault is set to release the brand new single, “I’m Losing You”, on May 24th.

This forthcoming single captures the fear of forgetting someone you once held close and the desperate chase for nostalgia. The song blends ethereal vocals with delicate piano and combines Rosie’s love for cinematic production with her signature venerable lyricism.

Rosie has kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding “I’m Losing You” and the creation process behind the music. You can find the full interview below.

Hey Rosie, thank you for this interview. Your new single, “I’m Losing You”, is due for release on May 24th. How did the idea for this song come together?

Rosie: Hi! Thanks for having me back. I’m very excited to share this new song, this was one of the rare occasions where I wrote a whole song in one go. I was feeling nostalgic, as always, and realised I couldn’t remember if someone I used to date had a middle name or not. It really freaked me out because I loved him so much at the
time and it just got me thinking about how forgetting someone against your will is so hard to process. Then I wrote this song while I was in my hometown in Lincolnshire, I’ve always said I think I do my best work in my childhood room and this is one example of that. The song centres around losing the final piece of a relationship.

What does it mean to you to include this message in a song?

Rosie: Having people leave your life is a major part of living and it’s something I spend a lot of time thinking about. It felt right to put this into my music, since I often joke about missing everyone I’ve ever known but it really is a big part of my existence. I find myself remembering every little detail about situations and people that meant a lot to me, so it felt unnatural to feel it slipping for the first time. I honestly spiralled a lot and wanted to write a song that could put that situation into words so anyone feeling that way (including myself) could feel a bit more seen.

You worked on the song alongside Evan Anderson. How did it feel to work alongside Evan again?

Rosie: I can’t believe how far things have come in such a short time for me, it’s only recently that I’ve started planning larger projects for my music. Until then I was just taking things song by song and seeing where it went. This time last year I’d never have dreamt I’d get to meet fans at my shows or have people make art and bracelets for my songs, I’m grateful for it every day. I wrote this track a while ago, in my song by song era if you will, so I always envisioned it as a single. I love working with Evan on my music, our first collaboration was just for a uni exam (making the song Medusa) and ever since then I knew I needed him involved with more of my music. He always immerses himself in the backstory of the song as well as the track itself, which I think gives it a really authentic feel. He always adds great ideas which bring music to life!

What does this song personally mean to you?

Rosie: This is one of my favourite songs I’ve written. The original voice memos are actually the first videos in my ‘writing’ highlight on Instagram, and I remember feeling so lost when I recorded those but putting the feeling into lyrics really helped me. The second verse has some references to another song of mine called ‘Ford Fiesta’ which I enjoyed including, so I definitely got creative with this one! I went through a phase of calling it ‘Losing You’ but then realised if I kept the ‘I’m’ then the first letter of each word of the title would spell ILY (like the abbreviation for I love you), which I liked as a little hidden feature too. I felt like I was giving a voice to some of my hidden thoughts making this track and that felt like a healing process. Sometimes I feel embarrassed to share some of my most venerable lyrics when I know people from my personal life will see and make links to my past, but I also know my music can help other people with emotional minds like mine so it’s always worth it. ‘I’m Losing You’ has a lot of really specific lines that I know give me away a bit to some people, but it feels like a step forward to share it anyway and just say ‘hey, this is me and what I’ve experienced’.

What message would you like listeners to take from this song?

Rosie: I want anyone listening to this song to know it’s okay to have setbacks in your healing process. Sometimes improvements don’t always feel like positive changes while they’re happening, especially when it comes to forgetting someone. When the memories are all you have it’s tempting to cling to them, but it’s not always in our control what we remember and what we don’t. In those moments of panic, this song can be here for you. It’s okay to
look back every now and then as long as you’re still moving forward, and this track is my way of being there and saying it’s okay to miss someone and still let them go. It’s possible too.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Rosie: No matter if you’ve come here because you know me and my music, or if you’ve stumbled across me by accident, I’m happy to see you here! As a small artist, being able to share the stories behind my music in spaces such as this is so magical to me. It feels so much more special, because you must’ve been meant to read this. Think of every tiny thing that had to happen for you to be seeing these words right now, it’s crazy right? I’m sending you all the positive energy I can and if you need a reminder than that’s exactly what my music is for.
