INTERVIEW: Piper Connolly Discusses The Release Of The New Single “Chameleon”!

Upcoming singer-songwriter Piper Connolly shares the brand new single, “Chameleon,” a pulsing alt-pop anthem that dives into the all-too-relatable feeling of jealousy.

This latest release journeys through the exhaustion of constantly reshaping yourself to mirror someone else’s success, losing sight of your true identity in the process. “Chameleon” was written by Piper Connolly and Marvin Fockens, who also produced the track. This track was mixed and mastered by Craig Lauinger at Mixcave Mastering.

Piper has kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the release of “Chameleon” and the creative process behind it. You can find the full interview below.

Hey Piper, thank you so much for this interview. You just released the new single “chameleon.” How did the idea for the song come together?

Piper: Hey! Thank you so much for having me—I’m excited to share about “chameleon!”

The idea for the song really came from watching the way people, including myself, sometimes change to fit a certain image or mold, especially when you’re chasing success. We all put on different masks to try to fit into these boxes we’re told we need to be in. And there’s this underlying feeling of envy that can creep in—seeing others and wishing you could be like them, wishing you could achieve what they have. But the thing is, we lose a little bit of ourselves each time we do that. “chameleon” is a reflection of that inner conflict—the struggle to keep your authentic self while trying to be something you think you need to be to reach that ideal. It’s that emotional tug-of-war between wanting to fit in and constantly battling with the desire to be someone else. It’s messy, but it’s real.

The song centres around our curation of personas to fit an ideal we may never truly reach, which can cause interior mental battles within ourselves. What inspired you to put this message into a song?

Piper: The inspiration for the message came from the pressure we all feel to constantly reinvent ourselves to meet societal standards, whether it’s in career, relationships, or just life in general. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others, to envy what they have or who they seem to be. We tend to judge ourselves based on these ideals that are set by others, and that can cause so much inner turmoil. It’s like you’re constantly trying to measure up to something that may not even be real. For me, it felt important to capture that in a song because I know so many of us go through it, but it’s not something we talk about often. It’s that internal battle where you’re trying to figure out who you really are, while also wanting what someone else has. It’s a feeling we all know too well.

Did you always plan to release “chameleon” as a single?

Piper: Honestly, I didn’t always plan for “chameleon” to be a single, but it felt right. I didn’t want to wait for an EP or LP for the song to be heard. Once I started to work on it, I knew I needed to share it with the world sooner than that would allow. The energy behind it felt really strong, and the message hit home for me in a way I wanted others to hear and feel it too.

What does this song mean to you?

Piper: To me, “chameleon” is about that moment of realization where you look in the mirror and wonder if you’re being true to who you really are. It’s a song about self-awareness and the balance between fitting in and standing out. It’s kind of my way of encouraging everyone, including myself, to be honest with who we are, even if it means going against the grain.

If listeners could take a message away from this song what would you like it to be?

Piper: If my listeners could take away just one thing from this song, I’d want them to feel like they can embrace their own unique journey without trying to become someone else. There’s power in being yourself—even when it’s hard, even when the world pushes you to be someone else. It’s okay to not fit in all the time. It’s okay to stand out.

What advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Piper: My advice for someone wanting to pursue a career in music? Be relentless. But also, don’t forget to stay grounded and stay true to what you love. It’s easy to get caught up in trends and what everyone else is doing, but at the end of the day, your unique voice and perspective are what will make you stand out. Don’t compromise on that, even if it gets tough.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Piper: To the amazing readers of the Fierce & Fabulous Revolution, I just want to say: Keep being you. The world can try to put you in boxes, but only you can decide how you break out of them. Keep pushing boundaries, and never forget that you are enough just as you are. Thank you for your love and support!
