Following on from singles “Party In The Sunshine” & “Over & Over Again”, upcoming singer-songwriter Terra Renae recently released the brand new single “Stick Around”.
Co-written alongside Macy Gray, this latest release is a moving song that centres between chasing personal dreams and making sacrifices for the ones you love.
Terra has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the release of “Stick Around” & you can check out the full interview below.
Hey Terra, thank you for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourself to readers who might be unfamiliar with your work?
Terra: Hi, I’m Terra Renae, a singer/songwriter from Louisville, KY, creating soulful pop music. I began sharing my music with the world in the summer of 2024, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me!
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Terra: I’ve had a passion for music for as long as I can remember. My mom loves to remind me how I would belt out every word of every song on the radio as a kid. In grade school and middle school, I was always involved in choir or school plays. Even as a little one, I wrote songs in notebooks and made-up melodies in the shower. Music has always been at the core of who I am.
Have you always known that you wanted to pursue a career within music?
Terra: For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to pursue a career in music. However, the path to get there wasn’t easy. I dedicated much of my life to academia, treating music as more of a “side hobby” until I graduated with my doctorate last year. It was after finishing my studies that I finally found the courage to fully commit to music.
How would you currently describe your musical style?
Terra: My music is relatable, emotionally raw, and authentic. I aim to inspire empowerment by drawing on my personal experiences and the challenges I’ve overcome.
You recently released the new single “Stick Around.” How did the idea for this song come together?
Terra: This song is deeply personal and draws from my own journey. During grad school, I had this grand plan to move to California after graduation and work as a nurse practitioner. But halfway through, I met my now-husband, Praveen, and set those California dreams aside. What I didn’t realize at the time was that Praveen was also a musician outside of his medical career. Fast forward two years into our relationship, and we started making music together. Now, we travel to California regularly, pursuing the true passion we both share: music.
This song focuses on chasing your dreams and finding love. What inspired you to include this message into a song?
Terra: I wanted to share this message because I know I’m not alone in navigating the challenges of balancing love and career. True love is incredibly hard to find, and once I found it, I wasn’t going to let it go. At the same time, I knew I’d find my career path, no matter where life took me. I chose love, and in doing so, I ended up exactly where I was meant to be.
Did you always plan to release “Stick Around” as a single?
Terra: I didn’t have a specific plan for this song when we started. It was part of the first batch of tracks we created with Macy Gray, and each song had its own unique vibe. They all told different stories and captured different experiences, which ultimately gave us the flexibility to either release them as a collection for an album or as individual singles, each telling its own story.
What does this song personally mean to you?
Terra: This song is a reminder to trust the process and believe that life always works itself out. Even when things don’t turn out the way you expect, it often means something greater is on the horizon—and that’s exactly what happened to me. I “stuck around” for the guy, and it turned out to be the best decision I ever made. If I had followed my original plan, I’d probably be a nurse practitioner in California, married to the wrong person, and writing songs on the side in an overpriced apartment.
What message would you like listeners to take from this song?
Terra: I hope this song serves as a reminder that sometimes the universe has a better plan for you—trust in that.
If you could offer advice to anyone looking to pursue a career within the music industry, what would you say?
Terra: I’d say, “Don’t miss your turn.” Macy Gray once shared this with me, and it really stuck. I found her words incredibly motivating and inspirational. Pursuing a career in the music industry can be challenging and unpredictable, but I truly believe that persistence and consistency are key to succeeding in any field. A lot of people give up just before their breakthrough, so keep pushing forward—and don’t miss your turn.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Terra: First off, I want to thank you all for taking the time to interview me! And to anyone out there with a dream—keep going. Don’t hide it, don’t fight it. That dream is a core part of who you are, so don’t give up on it. Don’t let fear or uncertainty stop the real you from shining through.
