Hey Devon, thank you for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourselves to readers unfamiliar with your music?
DB: Thank you so much for this interview! My name is Devon Beck. I am a singer/songwriter from Central Pennsylvania and now living in Nashville, Tennessee!
When did you first discover your love for music?
DB: I first discovered my love for music from a very young age. I always remember a love for music. My parents say I would listen to the radio and sing word for word back at the top of my lungs. There is actually no one else in my family musically inclined, so no one’s quite sure who it originally came from!
Have you always wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?
DB: I actually didn’t know I wanted to pursue a career within the music industry. I always pictured a musician singing on the side of a street with a guitar case open for tips. I didn’t know anything about the industry until it was introduced to me in high school. I thought I was going to college for music business, but ever since I realized I can make a living by performing at local venues, I pursued that!
How would you currently describe your musical style?
DB: I would currently describe my musical style as singer/songwriter Country. I would say I’m somewhere in between Ella Langley’s tough lyrics and Megan Moroney’s Emo Cowgirl style.
You just released the new single “Blame It”. How did the idea for this song come together?
DB: The idea for “Blame It” was entirely different when I first wrote it back in 2021. It originally started off about a guy who would only have enough courage to talk to me when drinking. I didn’t love the end result, so I took it to my co-writers, Cody Garrett, Nathan Wilson, and Sam Johnson in 2022. They helped me tell my story better than I could’ve ever imagined it being told!
The song relays the challenges of a relationship overshadowed by blame & alcohol addiction. What did it mean to you to feature this in a song & what would you like listeners to take from it?
DB: This song does relay the challenges of a relationship overshadowed by blame & alcohol addiction. This song was my life for a while. I truly lived this song. I wanted people to know that I know what you’re going through, and it’s okay to walk away. I love reading the comments on my TikTok of people’s stories and how proud they are for getting themselves out of these types of relationships.
What does this song personally mean to you?
DB: This song was written about a relationship I was in for a year. I slowly started noticing that alcohol was taking over. From him missing my shows because he was drinking, or not remembering things the next day. I would get upset with him about it, and his line was always “I’m sorry, I was just drunk”. And the idea of you “can’t blame it on the alcohol” stemmed from that.
Did you always plan to release “Blame It” as a single?
DB: I knew I wanted to release “Blame It” as a single because I feel it deserves its own moment. It’s a powerful message of a song that I didn’t want buried in an album or EP.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
DB: Thank you for supporting this song and sharing my story. I hope people can relate to this song in their own way, and I hope the people that went through the same as me knows that they aren’t going through this alone.
