Hey Piper, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourself to readers unfamiliar with your music?

Piper: Of course! My name is Piper Page, and I’m an independent Pop/R&B artist based in Brooklyn, NY. I’ve been an artist for about 4 years now and am about to release my debut album Based On True Events! I fuse together pop, soul, jazz, R&B, musical theatre and more to create my sound, and I’m very lyric-focused. I love fun, sarcastic,  humorous, and straightforward lyrics, reminiscent of Sabrina Carpenter, Dua Lipa, LIZZO, Adele and Mahalia.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Piper: Definitely at a young age, I can’t remember exactly though. I have always been an entertainer, and loved performing growing up. Around the age of 12, I realized that I liked to write music and as I went through high school and college, I found that I really loved making music.

Have you always wanted to pursue a career in music?

Piper: Not always, but I think I always loved it and knew it would be a huge part of my life! Though I tried many other things as a child and teenager, I was always led back to music. There’s nothing else that I feel equally challenged, entertained, amazed, and frustrated by more than music. Storytelling through music will always be my favorite thing. I knew for sure that I would pursue a career in music when I was in college.

How would you currently describe your music style?

Piper: Kind of all over the place…I just love so many things. I love music, no matter the type. I classify myself as a Pop/R&B artist, but it’s so much more than that. I grew up playing classical and jazz piano, I played viola in an orchestra growing up and have always loved that orchestral sound. Then in high school I fell in love with musical theatre and was a majorrrr theatre kid. When I started writing music, I actually started out as a singer-songwriter, very acoustic and stripped down music with softer, more emotional lyrics. But then when I moved to New York, I discovered all of this incredible underground R&B/Soul and Alternative R&B. So now, when I write songs I just kind of naturally blend all of those things together. I’ll take the lyrical structure of certain genres and put the production style of another genre behind it, and make it my own.

You recently released the brand new single “Rose Colored Glasses”, which sounds amazing. How did the idea for the song come together?

Piper: Thank you! “Rose Colored Glasses” is inspired by my own personal experience of falling for someone who wasn’t ready to commit, and displayed a lot of red flags that I intentionally overlooked. This song is one that really came from the heart, and I feel like it is relatable to a lot of people who have lost a relationship (romantic or platonic) because of one person’s inability to give in fully. After writing it, I took the song to my producer Hunna G, who brought it together beautifully. We ended up adding cello and violin, and it added this element of vulnerability that I think was missing previously.

This song is a bittersweet reality of ignoring red flags when you’re infatuated with someone. What does this song personally mean to you & what does it mean to share it with the world?

Piper: It’s definitely a very honest and emotional ballad, and I don’t write or perform ballads that often anymore. I think it was a great call back to the music I used to write when I was first starting out as an artist. For me to release it, especially in the timeline of singles that I did, made a distinction between the music I’m “known for” and shed light on the album as a whole. I’m so glad people can finally hear this song!

What message would you like listeners to take from this song?

Piper: That it’s totally okay to get your feelings hurt for the sake of growth. Sometimes, it’s okay. But, the first time you notice that they’re not giving 100% to you, speak up. I ignored the warning signs for too long, for the plot, and because I was young and naive. I should’ve moved on sooner.

On September 27th, you released your debut album, “Based On True Events”. What was the inspiration behind this album & what can listeners anticipate hearing?

Piper: There’s no one story that inspired this album. More like 12, haha! It’s a collection of songs that are based on my experiences dating, loving, learning, and growing up in a new city. You’re going to hear everything from jazzy instrumental interludes to soulful power ballads about love and loss to acoustic singer-songwriter mid-tempo tracks about the weather to contemporary pop songs about late nights out with the girls and casual dating. Think of it like your junior year of college, because it was my junior year of college 🙂

What will it mean to you to see this album out in the world?

Piper: It means SO much to me that this album is finally coming out! For a long time, I wasn’t sure it would. I had no team, no resources, no money, and no time to dedicate to this project. I’m so glad I stuck it out and saw it through. It was so incredibly worth it. I hope my audience loves it just as much as I do.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Piper: Keep going and carve your own path. If there’s one thing that I’ve learned over this experience, it’s that everything is on my own terms. So remember that, when you think you’re running out of time or that you won’t get to your dreams the way you always envisioned it. You might have to adjust, readjust, and reroute a little bit along the way, but as long as you keep going, you’ll get there.
