INTERVIEW: Leah Mason Discusses The Release Of The Brand New Album “HEXED”!

Upcoming singer-songwriter Leah Mason has unveiled the highly-anticipated brand new album, “HEXED”.

Eager to push the boundaries of her sound, Leah ventured to Sweden to work with producer Simon Jonasson on the brand new album, “HEXED”. After two & a half weeks, Leah emerged from the studio with a collection of meticulously crafted pop tracks that showcase her artistic breadth. This album is a showcase of Leah’s talents & leaves listeners craving more.

This album centres around a variety of topics such as heavy emotions, big life decisions, first loves/heartbreaks, transitional friendships, and figuring out who you really are. Across the album’s 13 tracks, Leah takes the intensity of young adulthood & bottles it up into a selection of universally relatable songs.

Leah has kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about the brand-new album & you can check out the full interview below.

Hey Leah, thank you for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourself to readers who might be unfamiliar with your music?

Leah: Hi! My name is Leah Mason and I’m a pop singer and songwriter. I’m originally from Cary, North Caroline and I now live in Nashville, Tennessee.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Leah: I knew from a really young age that I loved singing. I started performing with my brother in a 70s-inspired rock band when I was 10 years old, and from then on I knew I wanted to be on stage for the rest of my life!

Have you always wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?

Leah: I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in music, I just wasn’t sure of HOW. It seemed so distant and out of reach for a while. The hardest part was definitely just starting.

How would you currently describe your musical style?

Leah: The music I’m making currently is definitely POP, but I’m inspired by so many different genres of music. I think the lyrics, instrumentation, and chord progressions in my songs pay homage to a lot of different kinds of music.

You recently released the new single “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright.” How did the idea for this song come together?

Leah: I’ve been dealing with anxiety my entire life and I’ve perfected the art of “masking” it (aka hiding how I’m really feeling from other people). I was always fearful of making other people uncomfortable or being perceived as “crazy,” so I kept a lot of how I was feeling to myself. But when you suppress your emotions for so long, it’s eventually all going to bubble to the surface, whether you want it to or not. I think the healing process started for me when I finally surrendered to my mind and my emotions. That’s the whole idea behind “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright.”

What does it mean to you to see this song shared with the world?

Leah: It’s a mix of emotions. I practically cry every time I listen to it because it takes me back to the dark place I was in when I wrote it. On the other hand, I think it’s an important and vulnerable song that I know I would’ve wanted to hear when I was at that low point. I hope it can help other people that feel isolated in how they’re feeling.

The song is from your brand new album album, “HEXED”. What inspired the creative process behind this album?

Leah: I went into this album writing process with no particular plan. The only intention I set was to write about the things and feelings that felt real to me in that moment, and that’s exactly what I did. If I’m being honest my early twenties have been a rough time, and I don’t think I’m alone in that feeling. I hope this album brings to my people!

What are some of the things listeners can anticipate from this album?

Leah: I would say there’s a lot of anger, self-deprecation, sarcasm, and brutal honesty. I did not hold back at all on this album and I think it really shows!

What are some of your favourite songs from the album?

Leah: My top three favorites change daily, but right now my favorites are “Midas Touch,” “Insomnia,” and “Kissing Friends.”

If listeners could take anything from this album, what would you like it to be?

Leah: I just hope this album makes someone feel less crazy and less isolated in how they process things. These songs were born out of my lived experiences, so I hope the right people can find them and appreciate them the way I do.

What advice would you offer to someone who is looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Leah: Be yourself! It’s so corny, I know, but I swear it’s the truth. You are one of one! Don’t try to be anyone else, they already exist!

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Leah: Thank you so much for getting to know me! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the new album :)!
