Highly profound Swedish singer-songwriter, & producer Agneta Olzzon recently unveiled the brand new single “Någon som du”, which was written & produced by Ylva & Linda Persson & Rickard Bonde Truumeel.
This song was originally released in English & revamped into Swedish for Agneta to make her own version & bring a new identity to the composition.
The song was performed live & premiered to much admiration at the June 6th Sveriges Nationaldag (Swedish National Day) celebrations in Sundbyberg, Sweden, which is the date on which Gustav Vasa was elected king in 1523. This laid the foundation of Sweden as an independent state, & in 1809, on the same date, a new constitution was adopted.
Agneta & songwriter Ylva & Linda have kindly taken the time to discuss the release of this latest single & the journey behind it. You can find the full interview below.
Hey Agneta, thank you for this interview can you start by introducing yourself to readers who might be unfamiliar with your music?
Agneta: I am a singer-songwriter & producer sometimes. I live up in the North of Sweden, that part is called Norrland. I was born outside Umeå in a small village and was a country girl when I grew up with my family, on a farm in the woods.
I´ve been touring for almost forty years, and this year I celebrate fifty years on stage. I was only ten years old when I had my first performance on stage. I´ve been touring around, mostly in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark, with different bands & as a soloist. I´ve also been singing a lot on cruise ships and had songs on the biggest top list in Sweden, called ”Svensktoppen”.
I´ve also been on television, in things such as Bingolotto, Cafe Norrköping, Existens-TV and much more. I´ve released many records during the years and got successful songs on the biggest toplists in Norden.
I have also been touring with big stars in Sweden, including Kikki Danielsson. It has been such an honour for me. Since last year, I have had the honour of working with singer-songwriters and producers Ylva and Linda Persson.
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Agneta: To become a singer was my biggest dream, I´ve been singing all my life and I was born with the passion. I always used to say, that the music found me. I started writing songs as a little girl and my big idol was ABBA, and Agnetha Fältskog was my favourite singer. I saw ABBA in Umeå at Universum 1975 and it was my life´s happiest day as a little girl. ABBA´s music changed me and enchanted me. I felt their music so strong and I sing their songs even today. But now I sing my own songs too. The music means everything to me, and the music saved me. I really mean it. I don´t know what I have been without music: The music, the lifestyle that goes with it and my public is everything to me. I have people who travel very long to hear me perform, and that means so much to me, and it gives me so much strength and power. I love to meet my public, sing for them, talk to them and hear their stories too. They can tell me a life story in five minutes. It´s moments like those that our very important.
How would you currently describe your musical style?
Agneta: I sing different styles, I love it that way. I love to sing country, & a variety of modern music. Plus, I adore performing songs that sit straight into the heart. Soft and beautiful ballads. I love the shades to go between different styles.
You recently released the new song “Nagon Som Du”. How did the idea for this song come together?
Agneta: Ylva and Linda sent me some songs, and I was listening to them. Then they sent me this song ”Någon som du”, first in English. I really loved the song and I wrote them back and said I wanted to record it. And there it all started. The girls produced the song together with the producer Richard Bonde Truumeel . I love the result!
Ylva & Linda: We originally wrote this song in English and released it in another version and felt that it needed some more attention and love. So we decided to write a Swedish version for Agneta and make some updates to the production and sound as well as backing vocals. We thought that it would be perfect to perform live together at the Swedish National Day celebrations in Sundbyberg, where we live.
The song was written by Ylva & Linda, & Rickard Bonde Truumeel. What was the songwriting collaboration like for this release?
Agneta: I like the sound, and I love the song. I think the collaboration for the song was successful and we all felt it sounded great. The sound, the song, it all felt so right. I love to work with these people, and both Ylva and Linda are very supportive and giving to me, as a singer. They believe in me and they push me forward. I think together, we all are a great team.
What does this song mean to you?
Agneta: This song is very important to me. I love to sing it and I love the lyrics. The meaning of life at the moment, is to take care of each other and don´t take anything for granted. A friend of mine told me, that the lyrics were like a moving ballad. I said, “No, it’s not a moving ballad”. And he said, “Yes it is a ballad, because the words are like a personal ballad”. It was so nice to hear, and there I felt the meaning of the important words. It’s great to see people love the song, that is just wonderful.
Ylva & Linda: It’s a happy schlager and genre that we loved to write and really suits Agneta. We got a lot of good responses from the audience at the live performance and afterwards, it’s been aired on the radio and ended up top 4 on Dansband Radioen Nordic Topp 20.
The story behind the lyrics of “Någon som du” (translation. Someone like you) is about life’s ups and downs and embracing them and a relationship with someone with open arms, keeping the fire burning and never regretting choices made in the past.
Also truly being able to be secure in yourself with someone else, no matter what, which can come with maturity in a relationship. We had a comment from one of our first listeners that the lyrics sounded more like a ballad than an uptempo song, which made us realize that the lyrics are maybe more deep than the usual schlager.
What message would you like listeners to take from this song?
Agneta: As I say, Live in the moment. Live in the presence and take care of each other. That is so important, more now than ever. We live in a shaky world, so we have to stand near next to each other.
