BBC introducing singer-songwriter Lucy Shaw embarks on her next exciting musical chapter with the unveiling of the personally illuminated debut album “Go Girl”!
Taking inspiration from a phrase Lucy’s dad uses to encourage & motivate her, “Go Girl” features eleven songs influenced by Lucy’s personal feelings & experiences.
Each song carries an impactful meaning for Lucy while creating a bridge for listeners to connect their thoughts & ventures to the lyrical foundation that plays a crucial part in this ear-catching musical adventure.
The album begins with “Good In Goodbye”, which was inspired by Lucy’s best friend moving across the world. This song carries an accompaniment of guitar & violin elements that perfectly echoes the expressive & raw emotion filling the lyrical heart of this best friend anthem.
We then move on to “Strawberry Delights”, taking inspiration from one of her favourite sunsets. The song carries a variety of country & folk elements to create a gradually pacing track that you can easily listen to over & over again.
The third song, “Beans On Toast”, centres around finding someone you can lean on & who will support you in the toughest times. I absolutely love the lyrics behind this song & feel this is an incredible showcase of Lucy’s emotionally inspiring lyrical creativity. Dare I say this is possibly my favourite from the album?
Moving onto the fourth composition, “Sunday Afternoon”, is a tribute to the love Lucy’s parents have shared over their 30 years of marriage. This feel-good song instantly puts a smile on your face & leaves you with a heartfelt warmth.
The fifth song, “Time Zones”, is a country-influenced number that manifested its way onto this album’s tracklist. Written by Lucy’s dreams of adventuring to Nashville, this song would not be just a goal for long as little did she know that dream would soon become reality. It serves as a reminder that dreams can come true.
Over halfway into this album, we land on “Always A Blue”, which plays on a general belief that after a breakup, someone hurts first & the other moves on quicker, only for the pain to hit later after seeing them healing.
The seventh track, “M6”, stays with the heartbreak theme by delivering a song full of lyrics inspired by the raw emotion that hits following a breakup. The lyrics instantly draw you in & leave you fully invested for the entire duration of its course. A song everyone can find a relation with.
Following the loss of her grandmother, the eighth song, “Remember You”, recounts Lucy’s memories of their moments together & that she hopes her grandmother is able to see all she does. Each verse carries sentimental meaning & leaves you feeling every emotion. Lucy should feel so proud of herself for this heartfelt lyrical piece & that her grandmother is very proud too.
The ninth song, “Playlist”, features an uptempo folk-pop soundscape with amusing lyrics that will leave you with a cheeky smile on your face. This is the ideal anthem for anyone who doesn’t deserve a place in your life.
Moving on to the penultimate song, “Rosaline”, which carries you back into a more gradually pacing instrumental that carries the nostalgically daydreaming lyrical soul of this tantalising composition.
The final song, “Wiseman”, was written by Lucy as a special reminder of the strength & resilience her father shares despite the challenges faced. This song is such an incredibly sweet piece & one listeners will instantly adore.
Overall, Lucy’s phenomenal lyrical creativity & charismatically elevating vocals take centre stage throughout this album & leave listeners with a lasting impression that will have you coming back for more.
