INTERVIEW: Alexa Cappelli Discusses The Release Of The Recent Single “Backwards”!

Upcoming singer-songwriter Alexa Cappelli recently unveiled the new single “Backwards”, featuring Nashville-based musician Knox via Arista Records.

Alexa has swiftly found a following through a variety of heartfelt lyrics & emotionally driving vocals, with this latest single expressing the same. This brand new release centres around emerging forward from the pain caused by a relationship running its course & serves as an emotionally charged & empowering break-up.

Alexa has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the new release & the experience of working alongside Knox on the collaboration. You can find the full interview below.

Hey Alexa, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourself to readers who might be unfamiliar with your music?

Alexa: Of course!! I’m an artist born and raised in SoCal, I fell in love with music as a kid and the rest snowballed from there. Writing songs has become something that allows me to cope and process the stages of my life and tell stories. I’ve always been inspired by powerful vocalists, and hooky melodies, always evolving and learning more about myself and my sound.

How would you currently describe your musical style?

Alexa: I like to call my current era “pop edge.” I love pop music that has some organic and maybe even alt undertones. Really if any song of mine makes me want to *run through a wall* as my manager would say, it’s a win for me haha!

You recently released the new single “Backwards” (ft. Knox). How did the idea for this song come together?

Alexa: It was last summer, I remember it had been a really busy week, and someone from my past sent me an unsolicited message about my character from years before. The next day I had a session with Christian French, another awesome artist and writer, and we were talking about potential song concepts. I don’t think it had even been 24 hours when I realized I already forgot about that message because I was genuinely unbothered and moving on, even though they weren’t. We started writing about that!

Did you always plan to release “Backwards” as a single?

Alexa: No I didn’t! My label and management were so eager for me to, but it just didn’t feel right until one day it did. I am a firm believer in trusting your gut, and I’m glad about how the timing worked out, and to have Knox on the track as well!

How did the idea for a collaboration alongside Knox come together?

Alexa: Originally this song wasn’t a duet. But the more I sat with the second verse and even rewrote it a few times, the idea became more and more clear! I’ve been a fan of Knox for a while now and I was sooooo stoked when he said yes!!

Could we possibly see more collabs from you both in the future?

Alexa: This is my first ever song with a collab and Knox was a dream to work with! I can’t speak for him, but this process has been so fun and I definitely will be doing more features in the future.

What does this song personally mean to you?

Alexa: This song feels a lot like growing up. Learning to let go of what people think of me, especially people from my past who knew old versions of me has not been easy. I am so grateful for my friends and champions in my life now and how they’ve supported me. It’s easier to move on from the past when you’re grateful for the present.

If listeners could take something from this song, what would you like it to be?

Alexa: I hope listeners hear hope in this song, and in all my songs really. There’s nothing sweeter than when someone relates to my lyrics, and building community through music. I hope this song makes fans think about what the joy of moving on looks like for them and their own lives!!

What advice would you offer to someone who was looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Alexa: Be consistent and trust yourself. There are going to be people who have an idea of what your career should look like, but the only vision of that future that matters is yours. I believe and have a relationship with Jesus, so for me prayer is a big factor in developing my vision. Once you have that vision and direction, write it down and be persistent!!

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Alexa: YOU ARE SO LOVED!! And if you’re looking for a sign to take that step, this is it. Be your biggest fan!! (and stream Backwards) 🧚‍♀️⏮
