Hey Ilona, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourself to readers who might be unfamiliar with your music?
Ilona: Hi Fierce & Fabulous Revolution!! I am a singer/songwriter from Apple Valley, Minnesota currently based in LA. I am really excited to share “Catch My Vibe” with you!!
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Ilona: I first discovered my passion for music when I learned I could sing. When I was very young, I could spend hours on end listening to music and singing along. There was no better feeling in the world, and then when I learned my first set of choreography, I discovered that I loved to dance too. I knew music was something I had to pursue wholeheartedly.
How would you currently describe your musical style?
Ilona: Ahh, that’s a great question because a lot of my songs have very different themes, but I would say I generally fall within the pop/soul/dance style. And then sometimes my songs are very sober and real, to help people going through difficulties, or feelings of isolation and loneliness. But recently most of my songs have been upbeat, sensual, and romantic.
You’re just released your new single “Catch My Vibe.” How did the idea for this song come together?
Ilona: This song was written from a dreamy headspace! I had recently moved to LA, and I was exploring the city, and coming back to my Airbnb to write! In the first few months in LA, I had written more hooks than I had ever in my life! I was so inspired by the city, by the people, and LA is such a creative hub! It felt like a new beginning for romance, and for creativity.
Did you always plan to release “Catch My Vibe” as a single?
Ilona: I think “Catch My Vibe” is a great way to introduce myself to people, because it is my very first pop/dance record ever! I did want this to be my introductory single because it’s sexy and fun, and this year has been full of new beginnings for me, so it completely coincides with what I am experiencing in my own life!
What does this song personally mean to you?
Ilona: This song means so much to me because I write about wanting romance, and someone who really stimulates me and makes me feel something real. In the bridge, I talk about going to a higher place, and it’s about reaching a higher level of intimacy, mentally and emotionally being caught off guard by how much I feel. But also, this song is about having fun!! Post-pandemic, we all want to connect more. We crave that intimacy, and this song to me is about connection and having fun!
If listeners could take something from this song, what would you like it to be?
Ilona: I hope my listeners walk away with the feeling of new beginnings and possibilities!! I hope they feel positive vibes and want to come back to it over and over. And I truly just hope they enjoy this record and dance with me!
What advice would you offer to someone who was looking to pursue a career within the music industry?
Ilona: To stay true to your authentic voice. No one can tell your story the way you can. Share your truth and splatter as much paint as possible because there is no such thing as “wrong” songwriting. Consistency is key as well, keep going. There was a time when I couldn’t write catchy earworms, and I really struggled. I would say it took me almost a year to hone that craft. I kept going, and one day it just clicked in my mind. And now I can’t stop writing them!!
