REVIEW: Natalie Shay Releases The Indie-Pop Closure Single “The Edge”!

Multi-award-winning North London singer-songwriter Natalie Shay has inherently won over the hearts of listeners through her relatable lyrics touching on love, self-discovery & everyday experiences.

Not long ago, Natalie released the brand new single “The Edge”, which centres around the painful breakdown & complete blow-up of Shay’s friendship with her best friend. Natalie confides, “This is one of my favourite songs I’ve ever released, and as the feelings are still very raw, I’m hoping to find closure in this.”

Accompanied by its B-side “everything’s been happening,” the two tracks tell the story of how once you finally come out of something that had grown worse for you, you reflect & realise so many cracks showed long before you accepted that as the case. Natalie reveals, “Despite missing her and the good parts of the friendship so much, I know in order to still respect myself, I have to honour the power of an apology, and in this case, the lack thereof one.”

The song features an energetic indie-pop-influenced instrumental that, despite the song’s melancholy theme, sonically allows you to lose yourself in this dance anthem.

Each verse contains a variety of attention-grabbing & relatable lyrics that listeners can wholeheartedly find consolation in from the very first listen. This song features a perfect symmetry of emotionally raw lyrics & danceable rhythmic elements to reflect the emotional highs & lows of finding closure.

Throughout this song, we hear Natalie delivering an emotionally driving performance full of passionately-raw components that echo the spirited nature of this deeply relatable composition.

Overall, I think that I won’t be alone in believing that this song is another incredible representation of the emotionally creative talent this gifted songwriter possesses & can see it connecting on an in-depth level with many listeners around the world.
