London-based singer-songwriter FERGUS recently unveiled the brand new single “More Than I Deserve”.
Release via Goldun Egg Records & Co-produced alongside Jake Gosling, this latest composition navigates the darker times of a relationship to ultimately find hope when feeling that all is lost.
FERGUS has kindly taken the time to speak to Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the latest release & the upcoming debut album. You can check out what FERGUS had to say below.
Hey FERGUS, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?
FERGUS: Heya, thanks! I’m Fergus and I’m a singer-songwriter living in London. I’m finishing off my debut album at the moment so there’s not much time for anything else! But usually when I’m not musicking I’ll be watching something or cooking, or searching for the best dirty martini in London.
When did you first discover your passion for music?
FERGUS: I was very musical from a young age and toured the world singing in choirs, and playing ‘cello, but I think the passion really came through listening to music – I’ve always been the kind of person who listens to songs and albums over and over again on repeat.
How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?
FERGUS: Delicate vocals, intricate guitars, big choruses.
You recently released the single “More Than I Deserve” on the 19th of November. How did the idea for this single come together?
FERGUS: I was experiencing a lot of conflict at the time in my relationship – it was a difficult period coming out of first lockdown – and I just started writing about how I was tossing and turning, worrying about making the same mistakes again. Ultimately, I wanted it to be about not giving up.
Did you always plan to release this song as a single?
FERGUS: Yes – I was adamant, it’s pretty indicative of the tone and subject of the album. Structurally, it’s a little quirky, and more of a slow burner, but I thought it would be a great way to leave things this year…before the next single towards the end of January 2022.
How would you compare the creative process behind this song to your previous releases?
FERGUS: This was the first song written and recorded in and out of lockdowns, so it’s hard to think of a way in which it was similar! I had more of a production direction for this one, it was the first time I went into the studio with a specific guitar tone & kick pattern I wanted to use, for instance.
What does the song personally mean to you?
FERGUS: To me, ‘More Than I Deserve’ is a declaration of love in spite of how difficult things have been, but it’s also a cry for things to not be so unnecessarily difficult anymore, because it’s too much.
If listeners could take anything away from this song, what would you like it to be?
FERGUS: Don’t be so hard on each other, try to empathise and not make a big deal out of small things. Focus on the positive, bigger picture – please don’t blow things out of proportion.
This song is the third single from your upcoming debut album. What sort of things can we expect to see on the album itself?
FERGUS: Stunning artwork, for one! There are some really epic moments in there of sweetness and sadness. It’s a rollercoaster of love, regret, and the beginnings of a journey of self-acknowledgement.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
