Interview: Annie Foxx Discusses Her Latest Single “Blood Runs Cold”!

Emerging New York-based Anna Volpe has continued to showcase her ever-evolving musical style with the recent unveiling of her brand new alter-ego project, Annie Foxx.

Now, this gifted artist has released the debut single under her new project in the form of “Blood Runs Cold” & has kindly spoken with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest single, along with getting to know more from the artist herself. You can check out the full interview below.

Hey Anna, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Annie: Thanks so much for interviewing me! I am a singer, songwriter, and producer based in New York City. My career in music started as a back-up singer where I had the opportunity to perform and tour with several different NYC based artists and bands. In mid 2017, I realized I wanted to start telling my own story as a singer and songwriter and for the last several years, I’ve been writing and releasing music under my own name, Anna Volpe which ranges from indie-pop to singer-songwriter/folk.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Annie: My family is very involved in the classical arts world specifically in opera and ballet so music has always been a part of my life. At the end of middle school/beginning of high school, I started to discover my own singing voice and started to take it more seriously with voice lessons, musical theater camps, etc.  While in college, I wanted to explore other interests besides music but it quickly worked its way back into my life and I haven’t looked back.

Have you always known that you wanted to pursue a career within the music world?

Annie: Not exactly! While in college, I initially tried to stay away from it but in summer of 2011, I was introduced to several musicians and songwriters living and working in music, and knew instantly that I wanted to be a part of it.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Annie: Annie Foxx’s music can be described as an alternative that brings the edge and swag to pop music. It has that high energy hype vibe and I would say it’s perfect for any workout playlist or soundtrack!  Recently, you unveiled your alter-ego project called Annie Foxx.

How did the inspiration for Annie Foxx come to light?

Annie: Well, during this last year in quarantine, I have been working with a bunch of really talented producers and songwriters from all over the world and I started to work on projects that were quite different from what I usually do. It was edgier, brought more attitude and gives off that high energy that is super great to walk, run, and workout too. I call it my hype music! And with Annie Foxx, I’ve always wanted to create an alter-ego side project and I thought Annie Foxx is the perfect name for it! It’s a funny background story with how the name came to be. My close friends from high school have been calling me Annie for years now – a somewhat random nickname that came out of Anna and Volpe means Fox in Italian so I thought combining the two could give me the perfect alter-ego name.

You recently released the brand new single “Blood Runs Cold” on May 28th. How did the idea for this song come together?

Annie: Yes! Blood Runs Cold is Annie Foxx’s debut single which I am so excited to release out into the world very soon. I wrote this song with my producer and songwriter collaborator, Austin Bianco and it was actually the first song we have ever written together too. We finished the song in about like 2 or 3 hours, it was such an easy and fun session for sure! We are both fans of the british crime TV show, Peaky Blinders and the song is very inspired by Thomas Shelby’s character on the show. He is all about getting to the top of the food chain within his gangster family but that did not happen without sacrifice and pain.

Did you always plan to release “Blood Runs Cold” as a single?

Annie: Pretty much! I knew I wanted to introduce Annie Foxx to the world with a single release and after finishing Blood Runs Cold, I knew that it had to be this song! It’s kinda the perfect introduction to Annie Foxx 🙂

What does this song personally mean to you?

Annie: To me, this song is a true empowerment song (with of course more edgy attitude to it)! Whenever I listen to Blood Runs Cold, it gives me a real confidence boost and I hope it gives people that same boost too! Also, I would love to see a dancer choreograph a piece to this. I think it could be so epic!!

If listeners could take something away from this song, what would you like it to be?

Annie: Blood Runs Cold is all about empowerment and confidence building and I would love for it to do just that for anyone listening to it!! And another note – always remember there is only one of you out in the world and you are always going to be your first initial advocate in life!

What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?

Annie: When I am not doing music, I love spending my time watching movies (old or new). I think we all did a lot of that during the last year. I am also such a foodie and love going out to dinner and trying new restaurants with my friends!

What advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Annie: My biggest piece of advice that I am constantly telling myself is that a career in music takes time. When people say this career path is a marathon, not a sprint, it is 100% true. It’s super easy to get discouraged seeing people have “overnight success” but in reality, they are working super hard on the sidelines every day for years that led them to that point.  Also, being “successful” in music is super subjective and that is something to always remember too. What success means to you might mean something completely different to someone else.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Annie: Keep being fabulous. Keep working hard. Keep being you! ❤
