Interview: Izellah Talks About her Brand New Single “Treat You”!

Being relatively new to the music industry, Izellah has not strayed far from her usual profession as a theatrical actor. Izellah is officially transitioning from Broadway Star to Popstar.

Now, this upcoming music sensation has just released her brand new single titled “Treat You” & I have had the chance to speak with Izellah about her latest release.

Hey Izellah, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Could you start by telling us about yourself?

I’m turning 13 soon and live on the Gold Coast of Australia with my mum, dad and 10 year old bro – a great shuffle and break dancer. At age 7, I did my first professional musical, the King & I, then the Sound of Music and finally, the greatest experience of them all, as Matilda in Matilda the Musical.

In 2018, I moved from musical theatre to pop, recording with some great songwriters and producers in New York and LA.

When did you first discover your love for music?

Ever since I can remember I loved to sing and dance. At two and a half I composed and sang my first song, Jelly Beans ☺

How would you describe your musical style to someone who isn’t familiar with your work?

Originally musical theatre style, but now I have made the transition to pop style, which I love. I co-write all my songs. My earlier ones were motivational/anthem type songs like “Unbeatable” and “Dreams Come True”. Now I’m writing more reflective songs such as “Where Nobody Knows Me” and “Treat You”. It might sound corny, but I like to write songs that are an expression of something real.

Your brand new single “Treat You” is out now. Could you tell us how the idea to create this song came together?

This is the first song I recorded in New York. TUCKER, my co-writer, is a great pianist and he’s also an amazing songwriter. We had a chat about what I was feeling at that time and I showed him my song inspiration notes, which is like a diary where I write down everything about my feelings. Then TUCKER played the piano in a style inspired by Broadway as the recording studio was on Broadway Avenue. So this is my first pop ballad song, which has got sense of many things … musicals, Broadway, feelings and great piano tunes from TUCKER.

How have your family & friends reacted to your newest single?

Everyone seems to love this song because it’s heartfelt, which is what I was experiencing when I was writing and recording it, so people tune into that.

When you are not performing, what do you like to get up to in your spare time?

I love dance and acro, especially coming up with new routines with my friends, who I enjoy hanging out with as well – and having them at my place for sleepovers ☺

What is your all-time favourite movie?

The Greatest Showman of course !

What is one song that you always keep on your playlist & why?

My playlist is always changing based on what is good to my ears at the time. Most of them are up-beat songs.

Finally, Is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

As well as working out with my vocal coach, I do guitar and drum lessons. Drumming is fun and I’m learning guitar so that I can put tunes to the songs I write.
